Dieneke Oostindier, Psychotherapeut

My background - I was born in Anrhem, The Netherlands and moved around the world quite a bit. In a previous life I studied social and industrial psychology and worked as a consultant in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Australia. In 2007 I made the switch to counselling psychology, completing an Msc in Counselling Psychology at Curtin University of Technology in Perth. During this training, I worked with EAP’s (employee assistance programmes), and palliative care. In 2010 I moved to the Netherlands with my family and joined De Spreekkamer in 2013. In 2020 I completed the postmaster degree in Psychotherapy at the RINO Utrecht. I am specialised in the treatment of complex trauma and attachment problems and am trained in schematherapy and EMDR. I have affinity with crosscultural problems of feeling uprooted, an outsider, or being viewed as a minority. I also enjoy working with people who are demanding of themselves and have lost the fun in life; with people who are kids of parents with psychiatric illnesses, with people who suffered (complex) trauma and loss, and are still living life in survival mode; with people who have lost a pregnancy through miscarriage, who have delivered a premature baby, or experienced other pregnancy and childbirth complications. My approach is warm, curious, confronting and I like to use humour in my sessions. For me, you are the expert in yourself. Together we will explore different perspectives and find more nuance, self-compassion and joy. I work in the here-and-now, drawing on the past when needed.
